CalFresh Calculator was built with one purpose: to give families a fast, accurate, and private way to check whether they qualify for food assistance benefits — before they spend hours navigating government websites, filling out forms, or sitting on hold with a county office.
The idea came from a simple frustration. In 2026, finding out if you qualify for SNAP or CalFresh still means digging through PDFs on a USDA website, trying to decode federal poverty level tables, and doing math with deduction formulas that most people have never heard of. The official resources are accurate, but they are not accessible. That gap — between what the government publishes and what ordinary people can actually use — is what this site exists to close.
What We Built
We built a calculator that implements the exact same three-step eligibility test that county caseworkers use when they process your SNAP application:
- Gross income test — Is your total household income at or below 130% of the Federal Poverty Level (or 200% in BBCE states like California)?
- Net income test — After subtracting every deduction you are entitled to, is your net income at or below 100% of FPL?
- Asset test — Do your countable resources fall below the limit? (Waived entirely in most BBCE states.)
If you pass all three tests, the calculator then computes your monthly benefit using the same formula the government uses: maximum allotment for your household size minus 30% of your net income. That is it. No shortcuts, no approximations, no rounding that favors a higher or lower number.
Our Values
Accuracy & Trust
Every income limit, standard deduction, shelter cap, and allotment figure on this site comes directly from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. When USDA publishes updated figures in the Federal Register, we update our calculator within 30 days. We cite our sources on every page, and we never copy numbers from other third-party websites. If a figure cannot be traced to a primary government publication, it does not appear on this site.
Accessibility
Government benefits information should not require a law degree to understand. We write in plain English. We explain every deduction. We show you the math step by step, so you can verify it yourself or explain it to a caseworker. The tool works on any device — phone, tablet, or computer — and it loads fast even on slow connections.
Comprehensive State Coverage
SNAP is a federal program, but states have different rules for BBCE status, shelter deduction caps, utility allowances, and asset limits. Our calculator handles all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. We researched each state's specific policies directly from state agency publications, not from summaries.
Privacy First
All calculations run entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted to our servers. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, Social Security number, or any other identifying information. We do not store your results. We do not track individual calculations. Your data never leaves your device.
Independence & Objectivity
We are not affiliated with the USDA, any state agency, or any government entity. We do not receive funding from any benefits-related organization. Our revenue comes solely from non-intrusive display advertising. We have no financial incentive to show you a higher or lower benefit estimate — only the correct one.

How Our Content Is Reviewed
Every piece of content on this site goes through a three-step process before it is published:
- Research & Draft — The topic is researched directly against primary government sources (USDA FNS, CFR, Federal Register, state agency publications). The draft is written by Wasim Akram. AI tools are used only for grammar and readability after the human draft is complete — never for facts, figures, or eligibility rules.
- Accuracy Review — Every number is cross-checked against the latest official publication. Calculator logic is verified against official state pre-screening tools. If anything does not match, it is corrected before publication.
- Publish & Maintain — Content goes live with a byline, date, and source citations. Every page is re-reviewed quarterly. Income limits are updated within 30 days of USDA changes.
